Victoria Beckham world’s most glamorous?

Sorry, gotto write this in English: In a Max Factor-poll last week, notorious fashionista Victoria Beckham, got voted the world’s most glamorous celebrity. I would vote her the world’s most selfish consumer.

I don’t know about you guys, but I personally don’t think spending-power automatically makes a woman glamorous. Does the financial ability to buy any designer-frock in the world make you more glamorous than… say… some stylish, young singer, who goes for second-hand clothes and looks fabulous on a budget? I suspect you don’t really think so, but I do think a lot of everyday women press the «Victoria»-button in these kinds of polls, without even thinking about it. Because she looks great on the shot next to the poll, or because the poll-maker already did a narrative choice by including her in the poll. What if she wasn’t included? Or what if there was a critical text next to her photo, telling the reader about Victoria’s love for fur? Would you still vote for her?

Where are the critical voices?

It does send an unwanted signal when somebody like Victoria wins a vote like that. And especially, when a lot of fashion magazines and newspapers write about the event, without raising a critical voice.  I suspect a lot of women think she is glamorous because of two reasons: She has a sense of style, and she is skinny. But Victoria has no consciousness, she is an ignorant consumer. She has been working in fashion for a decade now, and she STILL does not care about animals, fair trade, ecology or other important fashion-trade issues. She has the money to make a difference, too, but she doesn’t.

Is Victoria Beckham the world’s most glamorous woman?

I don’t think so. I think she is fairly pretty and has a sense of style. But if you look up «glamorous» in the dictionary it often mentions «smart» as one of the contributing characteristics of being glamorous. Being glamorous is not all about clothes, it is about grace, dignity and intelligence. I don’t think Victoria is particularly smart. I think she’s selfish and a little dumb. Why else would she dress up in animals, born bred and killed in inhumane ways?

What do YOU think?

  2. […] This post was mentioned on Twitter by NOAH dyrsrettigheter, Dyreverneren. Dyreverneren said: RT @hildemars: Is FUR-LOVING Victoria Beckham the world's most glamorous celebrity? http://bit.ly/9Sl4Lf I think not, what do you say? […]

  4. Victoria påstår visstnok selv at hun bruker fake.

  5. «Victoria Beckham displayed a number of faux fur outfits recreated from designs she had seen at a Roberto Cavalli fashion show earlier this year.»

  6. Hei Aina.
